Nearly a year after canceling tour to focus on mental health, Canadian singer performs “Lego House” and “There Nothing Holdin’ Me Back” alongside Sheeran in Toronto
Almost a year After canceling his world tour to focus on his mental health, Shawn Mendes made a surprising return to the stage Saturday at the Ed Sheeran concert in Toronto.
During Sheeran’s performance of “Lego House” at the Rogers Center in Mendes’ hometown of Toronto, he welcomed the Canadian singer, acoustic guitar in hand, onto the stage.
Mendes then sat in to perform an acoustic rendition of “There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back” alongside Sheeran.
It wasn’t the first time the starlets had shared on the ring stage: Back in 2017, Sheeran showed up during Mendes’ show in Brooklyn to play “Mercy” together.
Saturday night’s cameo was significant for Mendes, as it was the first time in nearly a year that the singer had appeared on stage. In July 2022, Mendes postponed and then canceled his entire Wonderland World Tour to focus on his mental health.
“I started this tour excited to finally be back in live action after a long break due to the pandemic, but the truth is that I was not at all prepared for how difficult the tour could be after this time. After speaking more with my team and working with an incredible group of health professionals, it became clear That I need to take the time that I personally never had, to prove myself and come back stronger,” Mendes said at the time.
“I know all of you have been waiting so long to see these shows, and it breaks my heart to tell you this, but I promise I will be back as soon as I have the proper time to recover.”
Thus, the appearance of Mendes on stage with Sheeran may indicate that he is once again ready to perform live.
