America’s Got Talent He’s back on our screens, and the tears are already starting to flow.
Tests are always a mixed bag. To paraphrase Forrest Gump, you never know what you’re going to get.
With the first performance of the Mzansi Youth Choir at the opening of Season 18, we got something special.
The choir is from South Africa inspired by the story of the late Jane “Nightbirde” Marczewski, the talented singer who shined in 2021 AGT stage, and blew up the judges with her audition.
On that occasion, Marczewski scored Gold with an original song, “It’s Alright”.
After this performance, the singer revealed that she had a 2% chance of surviving the cancer, which had spread to her lungs, spine, and liver. The video garnered millions of views on YouTube and her performance elicited a standing ovation from the four judges.
Nightbird came out AGT After weeks to focus on her health. Her story ended in tragedy, however, when Marczewski passed away in 2022 at the age of just 31.
She is gone, but not forgotten. And on Tuesday night (30 March), the Mzansi Youth Choir ensured the continuation of their music and the continuation of their legacy by covering “It’s All Right”.
The choir originates from Soweto, a city in Johannesburg and was formed 20 years ago as a safe space for young people to develop and grow.
After the TV performance, tears. On stage, at the judging table and in living rooms around the world.
For anyone who does not know, we have lost a very special person from our country AGT family. Her name was Jane. Her nickname was Nightbirde, and she sang this song, “Heidi Klum sums up to the audience.” It was really beautiful. Thank you.”
“That was perfect AGT Audition, Sofia Vergara noticed.
Howie Mandel was moved by what he heard and saw: “I will always remember Nightbirde. And to see that it touched people on the other side of the globe is unbelievable. You deserve more than a yes. And to be here, you deserve thanks.”
Judge Simon Cowell wore his emotions out for the world to see. “It brought back so many memories,” he said, shaking and wiping tears from his face. “I know how much that meant to her. Up until the end, she was so passionate about sharing her music… I came back here with the most incredible appreciation. It was perfect.”
Singers will not deny. They got the Golden Bell, and with it a piece of history. Passage through the contest was granted by the audience, a moment never seen before AGT.
