Last November I started an online broadcast with MS Ireland we’re calling Unspeakable pieceswhile discussing topics that appear to be underrepresented in the multiple sclerosis (MS) space.
Recently we talked about MS and relationships.
I always have interesting and knowledgeable guests on the show, and my guests for this latest installment have been a relationship counselor and family law attorney (attorney).
We talked about the importance of safety within a relationship, strategies for catching the little things before they get out of hand, and legal remedies if things break beyond repair.
It’s funny how each of my guests talked about the importance of taking care of that garden early on. Whether it’s a prenuptial agreement or a little therapy (single or couples) when the relationship begins, the road ahead is always easier if we start paving it right from the start.
In this episode we also talk about issues like coercive control, neglect, abuse, and beyond. It was not an easy conversation, let alone a conversation to lead. But it was important to this difficulty, and certainly preserved our intention to speak of the ineffable.
There is more to come after the break
Before we take a short summer break, I have guests scheduled to talk about the importance of preserving, maintaining, and repairing connections we may have lost, as well as a full program on the topic of medical marijuana (and compound cannabis).
If that doesn’t turn some heads, well, we’re not doing a good job.
During the break, we’ll be recording a series of short podcasts that will be released in celebration of the 10th anniversary of the MS & Me blog, which I helped start in 2013.
On the topic of communications and MS & Me, my friend Declan wrote an article on reconnecting that I found particularly powerful and pointed. Read on and see for yourself. Declan is one of those guys who calmly and efficiently lives an amazing life that is an inspiration to me and so many other people I know.
If all goes well, after we’re done with this year’s webcast and podcast, we’ll be at it for a while longer. Lord knows there are enough untold topics about living with MS to keep us in thoughts for far longer than I do.
Anyone is welcome to join and view
If you would like to join us on one Untold bits Episodes are live, we usually broadcast them at 8pm Irish time (3pm ET, 12pm PST) on the third Thursday of the month.
May was a little different, as we decided the topic of fixing broken connections fit in well on the eve of World MS Day (May 30), and so we aired this show on Monday night.
Take a look at the Relationships registry and if you like it, take a look at some other Relationships as well. There is a great deal of important information out there whether you live in Ireland, the US, or anywhere else in the world with MS.
I wish you and your family the best health.
