Michael J. Fox takes an in-depth look at his legendary career and harrowing battle with Parkinson’s disease in Still: A Michael J Fox Movie. The Davis Guggenheim-directed film, made up of documentary film and archival footage along with scripted elements, premieres Friday (May 12) on Apple TV+.
Canadian actor, who rose to stardom as Alex P. Keaton on the 1980s sitcom family tiesand went on to find success on the silver screen starring in such cult classics as Teen Wolf And Back to the future.
Fox was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 1991 at the age of 29. He continued acting for nearly two decades before officially retiring in 2020 and issuing the best-selling memoir, No time is like the future: an optimist who takes into account morality.
Fox reflected on the moment he decided to retire in a recent interview. I thought Once upon a time in hollywoodHe remembers. “There’s a scene where Leonardo DiCaprio’s character can’t remember his lines anymore. He goes back to the dressing room and yells at himself in the mirror. Just freaking crazy. I had this moment where I was looking in the mirror and I thought, ‘I can’t remember it anymore.’ Let’s move on. It was peaceful.”
