Christiane Amanpour spoke out against Donald Trump’s recent CNN town council, calling moderator Caitlan Collins a “bad person.”
We know Trump and his tendencies, everyone knows that, he just seizes the stage and dominates. No matter how much flash the broker tries to direct at the inbound stream, it often doesn’t work. On Wednesday, Amanpour told Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism: Amanpour was accepting a Columbia Journalism Award and giving the school’s commencement speech.
Amanpour, CNN’s chief international anchor, said she met with CNN President and CEO Chris Licht earlier this week, and they had a “very strong exchange of views” about the town hall. Licht “welcomed” the stock exchange but stood by his decision to hold the event, according to Amanpour.
“I still respectfully disagree with allowing Donald Trump to appear in this particular guise,” Amanpour said, adding, “For me, of course, the American people have voted three times against Trump and Trump — 2018, 2020, 2022 — also speaks volumes.”
On how editors have dealt with Trump’s various allegations, Amanpour offered, “Perhaps we should go back again to the newspaper editors and television chiefs of the 1950s, who ultimately refused to allow McCarthyism to appear on their pages. Unless his mendacious lies, witch-hunts and rants reached their The basic level of evidence required in a court of law, his influence gradually declined with all but his fellow zealots and cultists.”
“So maybe less is more. Maybe living is not always right,” Amanpour said.
