Apple isn’t sure what it wants to do with the Apple GPT chatbot project on the client-facing side yet, but the Gurman report shed some light on the chatbot’s internal uses at least. According to the newsletter, Apple is looking at ways to expand the use of generative AI within its organization, with one possibility being to give the tool to AppleCare support staff to better help customers deal with issues.
Caution is reasonable. Companies like Apple and Samsung are said to have instructed their employees not to use chatbots because of the potential for information leakage, and the “hallucinations” producing misinformation can be as devastating as for a lawyer using ChatGPT to create a brief full of completely fabricated cases.
